Denture Repair
Damage And Repair Of Flexible Partial Dentures
In the early 1950s, the flexible partials were nylon-based. During that era, dental professionals believe that Dentures should be made of rigid and durable materials. But dental patients preferred dentures high on aesthetic value as well as durability. Several products have emerged to provide these features yet the materials have a low melting point which made it difficult for dental technicians to adjust and repair dentures with damages and defects. The heat would easily melt the material which results to causing more damage to the surface due to the formation of tiny balls. The added damage was hard to remove and forces user to just get new set of dentures.
However, the problem with materials that have higher melting point is that it can easily get fractured compared to the ones that have relatively low melting point. Complete dentures made of acrylic can easily get repaired using a colorless liquid made of an organic compound called methyl methacrylate. This polymer material is also commonly used as denture base and as a material for repairing the false teeth structure. But it is difficult to repair flexible partials permanently since these are made of nylon-based material which is hard to manage as this is too flexible.

Broken Dentures
The nylon-based flexible partials are commonly used today which minimize sore spots that usually occur with denture wearers. However, more flexible materials are now in the market and they are made with advanced plastic technology. Still, dental professionals and technicians highly recommend of visiting your dentists instead of doing repairs on your own on fractures and chips on these dentures with ordinary adhesives such as denture paste and epoxy. Whenever dentures have fractures and loose teeth, it should be immediately checked for repair by your dentist.
Sometimes people have the tendency to use fine grade sandpaper to smoothen rough edges although this may help, dental professionals recommend having it adjusted by dental technicians to avoid more damage to the denture. There is also a polishing equipment that can finely smoothen the surface without fracturing and damaging the denture. Nevertheless, there are denture repair kits that can be used for emergency repairs for broken dentures and loose teeth. But these kits are only used for temporary repairs to fix minor cracks and chips. These denture repair kits are best for those who cannot immediately bring their dentures to the dental clinic. But it should be noted that not all denture materials can be repaired by the tools and adhesives found in these kits.
Cost Savings From Denture Repair Kits
False teeth or dentures are aesthetic and functional teeth replacements that are made of different materials. The structure of dentures depend the individual’s missing teeth and his preference for flexible yet durable materials. Although dental implants have been praised for its natural looking and durable structure, most patients with missing teeth cannot easily afford the cost of implants. So people go for partial and complete dentures which provide almost the same functionality and aesthetic qualities. But the use of these teeth replacements depend on the person’s remaining natural teeth and also the person’s gum and bone tissue condition and structure.
When folks rely on partial and complete dentures, they usually get to be asked about their preference as to the type of materials and price. Most average people with missing tooth or teeth would prefer the budget friendly alternatives. However, these partial and complete dentures are prone to fractures, cracks, chips, and other damage due to its acrylic and plastic materials. There are also metal clips used in these dentures but sometimes it can also be alternatively replaced by flexible plastic materials that do the same job.
Damages on these dentures typically happen during cleaning and bedtime when the wearer has to remove the denture to be soaked in denture solution. Sometimes an accidental fall can cause the artificial teeth to come loose or perhaps cause a crack on the gum structure of the piece. There are several reasons why dentures could fail and normally these are due to wear and tear. So when this happens, sometimes it would be easy to fix the problem ourselves. But the problem with this is that there are some damages that are better left done by professionals.
Nevertheless for those who cannot wait for their dentures to get back from the clinic, wearers who have damaged set of dentures can have a denture repair kit handy. Check if the damage can easily be repaired by the tools and dental grade solutions in the kit. Denture repair kits are nifty alternatives that can help you save money and avoid expensive professional fees. There are even some states that disallow dental technicians to directly do business with patients and so we are always advised to see our dentist first. The dentist in turn will be the one who will contact their own dental technicians working in some other laboratories. Thus, the dentist serves as a middle man who can still make cash on the dental repairs.
Denture Repair
It is a common sight to see hairline fractures, chipped or broken false teeth, and broken denture base. Dental technicians are often sought to repair these types of damage to dentures but in some cases, the broken sections cannot be repaired anymore. Although dental technicians may have the equipment to restore damaged dentures, there are just some damages onto the acrylic base that cannot easily be fixed especially if the metal sections have been badly deformed.
However, there is still hope for most damage done a denture. They typically use acrylic resins and false teeth replacements to match the old denture. The common reasons why denture break is that the structure of the false teeth does not snuggly fit into your mouth. Another common reason is that the denture materials are just too weak and that your bite may now be harder than what you were used to. This change in your bite could also still be caused by ill-fitting dentures.
Even natural teeth opposite to the false teeth can cause damage to it due to uneven biting that causes more pressure to the other teeth. But there is still hope for those who suffer from fractured dentures. Most of the damage can be repaired but dental professionals advise false teeth wearers not to fix their own dentures with denture glue. It will just cause more damage in the long run and the dental adhesive is not designed to fix acrylic, metal, or porcelain materials. It will also just make professional dental repair harder since the adhesive material is already on the denture.
Broken metal clasps can still be repaired but patients will be required to have another mould of their mouth taken. Adjustments will be done if they see movements of the teeth that could have caused it. Special dental equipment is also needed to replace the broken acrylic section. Other procedures include the reinforcement of the acrylic resin with fiber framework. Nevertheless, light alloy or metal and chrome dentures are difficult to repair as it may require soldering. Hence, there may be some broken parts that are harder to repair which could also entail a steeper cost of repair than the acrylic denture.
There are different methods in reinforcing the dentures and it could be with stainless steel wires or the more flexible carbon fiber mesh or framework. Teeth can also be added to your existing denture but the procedure will still depend on the type of material your current denture is using. Additional teeth added to plastic dentures can easily be done but these are likely to be a temporary solution. Sometimes it would be advisable to get a new set of dentures if there are additional teeth to be placed on your denture.
